    Problem:

    Error: "Assert Failed: NumAudioChannels == 2 . . . SSoundSystem.cpp line: 119." (Windows 95/98/Me)

    Solution:

A1. In the Taskbar, right click on the yellow Speaker icon (next to the clock).

NOTE: If the Speaker icon is not present, skip to step B1.

A2. From the drop down menu, select Adjust Audio Properties and left click.

A3. Please skip to step B3.

B1. From the Taskbar, click "Start" and from the Start menu, point to "Settings"; from the Settings submenu, click on "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel window.

B2. In the Control Panel window, double-click on the "Multimedia" icon to open the "Multimedia Properties" sheet. The "Audio" tab is in the forefront by default.

B3. Verify that "Use preferred devices only" (Win95) or "Use only preferred devices" (Win98) is selected, this procedure will not work correctly if this item is not selected.

B4. From the "Playback" section of this tab, verify that one of the following options is already listed in the "Preferred Device:" field:

    Game Compatible
    Game Compatible Device

B5. If one of these options is not already selected, click on the down-arrow at the end of the field and, from the drop-down menu, select either "Game Audio" or "Game Compatible" for your Preferred Device.

B6. From the Audio tab, click "Apply" to make the changes and then click "OK". Click the close-box in the corner of the Control Panel window to close it. Windows does not have to be restarted for this change to take effect.

    Also Try:

    1. From the Windows Desktop, right-click on the My Computer icon, and left-click on Properties from the resulting menu. This will open the "System Properties" window.
    2. Click on the Device Manager tab to bring it forward. Under the View devices by type header, click on the "+" next to the Sound, video and game controllers listing.

    4. At the bottom of the General tab, under Device Usage, check the option box that states "Disable in this Hardware Profile."

    5. Click on the OK button at the bottom of both windows.

NOTE: Disabling the Wave Device for Voice Modem only disables the Voice functionality of the modem and is not completely disabling the modem. Disabling this device will only hinder you use of the modem as an alternative to Voice Mail or Answering Machine. This procedure does not effect the standard operation of the modem, such as sending and receiving a fax, or connecting to the Internet or another computer.
