  • I have inserted CD 3 and I do not have one of the CD/DVD-ROM drives with known compatibility issues, but I still receive the error message. Why is this ?

    Product: Painkiller
    Problem:

    I have inserted CD 3 and I do not have one of the CD/DVD-ROM drives with known compatibility issues, but I still receive the error message. Why is this ?

    Solution:

    Device drivers and firmware are out of date and need to be updated. Please update both your motherboard drivers and your CD/DVD-ROM drivers/firmware.

    Please note that we are not responsible for any computer problems resulting from driver/firmware update. If you are not familiar with how the update process works, please contact the appropriate manufacturer for assistance.

    CD/DVD-ROM DRIVES

    In addition, there is a Microsoft update for Safedisc .

    Finally, when launching Painkiller, there may be virtual drives mounted/emulated, debuggers and/or auto-update applications running. Please turn off the emulated virtual drives and close all other non-essential processes running in the background. If you do not know how to do this, please consult the Help documentation with your program or contact the program's support.

    Some known programs causing this problem include, but are not limited to, Norton Ghost, Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, Nero Image Drive, Clone CD, Phantom CD, Fantom CD Emulator.

    NOTE: These programs do not need to be uninstalled, but have the emulation option disabled or have their process ended before launching the game.

    Product: Painkiller
    Problem:

    I have updated my drivers and my computer appears to meet the minimum requirements to run Painkiller, but I am still having some trouble. What else should I look at ?

    Solution:

    On certain configurations it has been noted that selecting the "Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio" driver as the Sound setting under the Options Menu will prove to be more stable than other hardware drivers.

    Solution:

    Yes. Save checkpoints in both Daydream and Insomnia modes replenish your health fully.

    Problem:

    I try to join a multiplayer game and I am prompted to enter a password. Why is this ?

    Solution:

    Currently, there is no indication whether a multiplayer game is password-protected or not. Please cancel out of the screen and re-select another multiplayer game.

    Problem:

    If I wish to have a LAN party, does my Painkiller CD need to be in my CD/DVD-ROM drive during the entire game ?

    Solution:

    You may start playing a LAN game with the CD in the drive, remove it, and then pass it to the next player. However, to do this you must have a valid key for each computer.
