Device drivers and firmware are out of date and need to be updated. Please update both your motherboard drivers and your CD/DVD-ROM drivers/firmware.

Finally, when launching Painkiller, there may be virtual drives mounted/emulated, debuggers and/or auto-update applications running. Please turn off the emulated virtual drives and close all other non-essential processes running in the background. If you do not know how to do this, please consult the Help documentation with your program or contact the program's support.
Some known programs causing this problem include, but are not limited to, Norton Ghost, Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, Nero Image Drive, Clone CD, Phantom CD, Fantom CD Emulator.
NOTE: These programs do not need to be uninstalled, but have the emulation option disabled or have their process ended before launching the game.
